If you were willing to lick the track dry, a good portion of this liquid was champagne. After his last run, Andy Turner got doused in water and a bottle of champagne. As the Mondo track surface isn't porous, any liquid that touches it just stays there until it evaporates... or, until someone sweeps it away, which happened in a later photo. Awwww.
Photos of the Great City Games, Newcastle, 6th September 2014. I spent most of the day hovering around the long jump pit, as it seemed to be the closest place to get to any action. Some of the names I can remember...
Greg Rutherford (overall winner)
JJ Jegede (pulled out after the first round)
At the end of the day, I went to the main track to see Andy Turner saying his goodbyes, as this would be his last ever race.
